Ongoing project
CISUTAC (Circular and Sustainable Textiles and Clothing)
The production and consumption of textile products keep growing, along with the impact on the environment, due to the lack of reuse, repair, and recycling of materials. Quality, durability and recyclability are often not prioritized in clothing design and manufacturing (EU Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles, March 2022).
The project CISUTAC (Circular and Sustainable Textiles and Clothing) aims to eliminate current bottlenecks to increase textile circularity in Europe. The objective is to minimize the total environmental impact of the sector by developing sustainable, innovative and inclusive European value chains on a large scale.
Led by Centexbel, the Belgian research center for textiles and plastics, the consortium CISUTAC spans the entire EU and includes world-leading brands and companies, civil society organisations, research and technology organizations and EU associations. Texfor is part of this project along with 22 other partners.
CISUTAC It covers a relevant part of the textile sector and shows how to apply circularity for both the product and the materials used. This will be developed in 3 pilot programs:
- 2 groups will develop solutions for the materials used in production (representing almost 90% of all textile fiber materials: polyester and cotton
- 3 groups will focus on the study and search for solutions to apply the principle of circularity in the production of: work clothing and PPE, fashion and accessories.
CISUTAC It also aims to raise awareness among EU citizens about the environmental impact of buying new clothes and the benefits of reusing, donating and buying second-hand textiles. Thanks to partners' stores, e-commerce platforms and social media networks, CISUTAC It hopes to reach about two million people throughout Europe.
Texfor is part of this project along with 22 other partners from different European countries:
CISUTAC CISUTAC is part of the Horizon program, co-funded by the EU. It began its activities on September 1, 2022, and will last 48 months.
